Blind Creek Beach - Fort Pierce, Florida, USA
Blind Creek Beach in the greater Port Saint Lucie area of Florida may just be our favorite beach that we've visited to date. Keep in mind that as of this writing, we have only visited the beach prior to its obtaining official nude status in mid-2020, which we have heard through the grapevine is attracting more visitors that may not have known about the beach prior to this publicity (for better or worse). We mention this particular caveat because we believe one of the best things about BCB is the fact that it is a more remote, peaceful alternative compared to many of its "competitors" (namely nearby Haulover).
While Blind Creek has seen nude use for many years, it was officially voted on and recognized by the county and state as a nude beach after a 4-1 vote in June of 2020. Since then, official signage has been erected and the local volunteer group (Treasure Coast Naturists) is looking at providing more facilities for its visitors. As of our visits, parking was free, but the amenities were limited to portable toilets adjacent to the parking lot—this may all be changing in the years ahead. That all said, the beauty of Blind Creek was its remoteness. Even if the beach was relatively busy during our visits (50~ cars in the parking lot), you had plenty of room to distance yourself if that is what you desired. The beach, while narrow shore-to-dune, feels like it stretches on for miles and miles (the recent signs may restrict this more than what has historically been the case). This is probably because of its unique positioning on Hutchinson Island, away from any really developed properties (other than the power plant across the street).
Blind Creek is quite the opposite of Haulover. Virtually no amenities or facilities, but a tranquil beach unlike any other that we have visited. No sounds of traffic or visions of skyscrapers... just the sand, sky, and sea. While the Treasure Coast Naturists aim to keep the beach in good shape and function as ambassadors similar to those at Haulover, it should be noted that they don't seem to have as much of a physical presence there. While we have never personally had anything other than amazingly positive experiences, recent posts online may indicate that the announcement of Blind Creek's nude status to the public may have attracted some unwanted individuals and TCN may need to step up their game in order to crack down on undesired behavior, though they recently (September 2020) held a new beach ambassador training of their own, so hopefully that bodes well for its future.
