Caliente - Land ‘O Lakes, Florida, USA
From a nudist's perspective, Caliente is a tough one. On one hand, it is the most "high class" and well presented clothing optional resort that we have been to. From decor to amenities to service, it truly feels like it could be a 4 or 5 star resort in terms of its grounds and its offerings. On the other hand, while Caliente is *not* a swinger resort outwardly, they do not denounce that lifestyle and in turn many of its visitors and residents seem to use nudism as a cover for their intent to meet up with other sexual partners. While we don't mean to make this a huge deal, we feel it's important to be aware of this prior to visiting. Even during our tour of the property, it was pointed out by their staff that they like to cater to all walks of life, whether you are a nudist or swinger; they don't want to exclude anyone. They will tell you that no overt sexual behavior is tolerated in public, but it soon becomes obvious that some of the guests (especially in the night club or hot tub after dark) begin to get pretty touchy-feely with one another (and we assume ultimately end up "going home" together). If you subscribe to Caliente's newsletter or check the parties link on their website, it's no big secret that they advertise their events and happenings with lots of "sexy" fanfare. It's even in their phone number!
It's somewhat of a shame if you are an ethical naturist that is completely uninterested in associating a sexualized atmosphere with social nudity, as this property has so much potential. Many nudists live permanently at (or frequently visit) Caliente and politely decline any sexual advances. To them (and to us as visitors), it's worth the amenities and service of the property, and in most cases you will be able to get by under those circumstances just fine. While we visited only for a day, nobody made a sexual advance or even made us feel uncomfortable in that regard, but it was evident that the clientele that was there was a bit different than your typical nudist location. The people we are referring to were extra showy, extra touchy, extra flirty—perhaps even a younger average age for what that's worth—more flashy jewelry, and a lot of women wearing thong or g-string bottoms, ironically. If it doesn't bother you being around these sorts of things, and if you're OK politely saying "no" if anyone tries to spark up a sexual conversation with you, it is likely still going to be worth a visit just because of all that Caliente has to offer.
Speaking of which, amenities include, but are not limited to: numerous pools (including one massive unheated pool with a waterfall), tennis, volleyball, many choices for on-site restaurants and bars with different themes, a spa and sauna, fitness room, gift shop, and much more. Of particular note, in addition to offering traditional hotel room accommodations, the "compound" that is Caliente also offers permanent homes for sale, as well as apartments, condos, other rentals, etc… and of course, all of it is clothing optional. This seemed particularly unique and made for a great leisurely stroll, as we never before found ourselves walking through a normal looking neighborhood littered with homes worth in excess of $500,000 without a stitch of clothing on.
