Full Tan Sun Club - Sprakers, New York, USA
With the recent loss of Juniper Woods and other nude spots in and around "upstate" New York, Full Tan Sun Club stands out as one of the few remaining options in the region. We only visited for a day during September (toward the end of the summer season) when the resort was winding down for the year, but owner/manager Kerrianne couldn't have been more accommodating and charming. She was extremely gracious and embodies everything good about Full Tan. It is not a massive property, but comfortably accommodates residents, transient overnight guests, and day visitors alike. There is a centralized social area as well as some nature trails that are quite tranquil (it really feels like you're in the middle of nature once you walk away from the main campground)—one even leads to a small pond on one corner of the property.
It is a relatively modest resort and campground in terms of amenities, but has the basics that you would want, including a swimming pool (on the smaller side), clubhouse, restroom and shower facilities, and the bonus of a food truck that was present during our visit (we are not sure of the consistency of their hours throughout the season) serving up a variety of tasty options. It is unclear whether this was just the case during our visit or something that regularly happens, but it seemed to us that Full Tan Sun Club teams up with a local food truck(s) to provide some high quality, affordable meals for their guests without having to leave the property. It cannot be understated how great of an amenity this was! As mentioned above, we visited in mid-September and not during an event (though it was on the weekend), so we imagine a food truck (or comparable on-site dining options) would be available throughout the summer season.
All in all, if you should find yourself in the upstate New York region (perhaps attending Naked In A Cave at nearby Howe Caverns), it is absolutely worth a visit to Full Tan! Since our experience is just a snapshot of the resort and the amenities available on one particular Sunday in September, we would advise calling ahead to double check on the offerings available during the time that you intend to visit!
Editor's Note: It is possible that our experience with the food truck was temporary or a one-off situation, as the Full Tan Sun Club website currently (more than a year after our visit) mentions the "Barely There Cafe" that serves breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Sunday (the park is closed on Mondays according to the same message).
