Solair Recreation League is another one of the great nudist resorts and campgrounds that date back to the early days of the nudist movement in the United States. Located in Connecticut, it is fairly accessible for most of the folks residing in New England and even has the added benefit (for us personally) of being easily accessible by ferry from Long Island, making it roughly the same distance to get to and from as many of our other closest resorts in NY, NJ, and PA—without the hassle of dealing with the NYC traffic! While Solair operates year-round for its many residents and members, it is generally closed to non-members during the winter months. Outside of that, Solair does accommodate day visitors during the spring and summer seasons, and does have a membership process for aspiring members or would-be residents that requires four visits with references from existing members. Whether you are interested in this or not largely would depend on how often you plan to visit, but their team of staff and volunteers do a great job at explaining the benefits and giving you a thorough tour of the property during your first time at Solair.
Located on more than 360 acres, Solair has plenty of room for residents and campers alike, as well as specific rental accommodations that are available and differ greatly in their offerings. It would be best to inquire at the office depending on what you are looking for, but we would absolutely recommend one of their rentals if you aren't set on bringing your camping gear or RV. There are also a number of homes and other permanent accommodations available for sale for those who are interested, but as mentioned above you would need to complete the membership process prior to entertaining buying into Solair. As part of the acreage, there are some really great (and semi-challenging; at least enough to get a good workout going!) hiking trails, including perhaps the most well-known Bare Trail that leads to an extremely scenic overlook of the rest of the resort.
In terms of amenities, as with most nudist resorts and campgrounds there is a centralized area where most of the socializing takes place. This is usually centered around either the large elevated pool and expansive pool deck (with canopy for shade in some areas), or the beachfront area that makes for a more tranquil sunbathing experience. Both are great options! The pool is adjacent to an indoor hot tub, excellent bathroom and shower facilities, and clubhouse. On the lower level you will find the Delish Bistro that serves some truly incredible dishes (save room for dessert)! Be sure to check on the offerings during your visit, as the menu will change from time to time and some days there will be breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner served, but not necessarily three meals a day every day (unless perhaps there is an event going on over the weekend). Around the corner, you'll find the quiet beachfront area with plenty of lounge chairs, side tables, picnic tables, and boat rentals on an honor system that you can enjoy using on the lake. You can also swim in the lake and there is a dock in the middle that you can climb up on to rest and sunbathe, similar to what Rock Lodge offers, though perhaps the lake is smaller in size (or at least narrower for that matter). There is also a recreation hall near this area that will frequently be home to live music entertainment and dancing, especially during events or on summer weekends. All-in-all, Solair has everything that you could want from a nudist resort and campground in the northeastern U.S. and we would absolutely recommend a visit!
