PSHS Inc, which is short for Penn Sylvan Health Society, has been a staple in the northeastern United States since the 1930s—another resort and campground that grew out of the initial nudism boom almost a hundred years ago. One of the cool features about PSHS is that it is one of the few nudist resorts in the region that is open to all on a year-round basis, famously hosting New Year's Eve gatherings and other events in the fall and winter when many resorts close their doors to visitors and the snowbirds head to Florida (or other warmer climes). Part of the reason that they run a successful year-round operation in a colder climate is due to the fact that they have many great amenities that can be utilized in the winter, such as an expansive clubhouse with full kitchen facilities and stage (for parties and performances), large indoor pool (equipped with a great water volleyball net), large indoor hot tub, and sauna.
At warmer times of year, PSHS also has a large outdoor swimming pool and great pool deck with many shower and bathroom facilities nearby. There are also tennis, volleyball, pickleball, and petanque courts as well as plenty of grassy areas to hang out, sunbathe, or camp. At night, there is a nice fire pit that is often home to many folks sitting around and singing along with an impromptu jam session. While food service seems to vary, there is often always something available, whether a food truck is hired to service larger events, or the in-house kitchenette serves up some specialties that are made-to-order. While it isn't difficult to bring in items from stores that are a 10-15 minute drive away, it would be best to call ahead before your visit to confirm what food & beverage options may be available at that time. If you are planning to stay overnight and are not bringing your own camping equipment, there are multiple cabins that are available for rent that vary greatly in price and offering—some of them do not have air conditioning, so if you are visiting in the summer it is worth checking with the office on this, too! Finally, in addition to the cabin rentals, there are a limited number of motel rooms that are available for overnight rental as well.
In addition to the amenities offered by PSHS on a year-round basis, you will also find the campground hosting a variety of great events throughout the year. While it is unclear if PSHS will be the future home of the MoonGroove Music and Arts Festival in 2024 and beyond, we had the pleasure of attending MoonGroove at PSHS two times already and had an absolutely wonderful time on both occasions. This is partly due to the hospitality and offerings on hand at PSHS itself, but also (of course) due to the hard work of Eli and all of the organizers and artists that put on a great festival. As mentioned, this may not be specific to PSHS going forward, but we would be remiss if we did not share how great of a time we had at these events in the past and how perfect of a setting PSHS provided for it (think arts festival with many vendors combined with music festival with multiple stages and a huge variety of genres playing all weekend long). It really is a great time and we would definitely recommend both PSHS and MoonGroove!
